<back - RICKY LEE PHELPS - Raised a 'son of a preacher man' in a family full of musicians, there are some things in life one can’t escape. Ricky Lee’s destiny was laid out long before he became aware of it. He realized his passion for music at an early age in church services where he found that he could pick out and sing different harmony parts during praise and worship time. Little did he know he was honing his craft in those backwoods churches. Through the years his musical interests grew in various directions, finally leading him to Music City-Nashville, Tennessee. Doug Phelps, Ricky Lee’s younger brother, was already in Nashville playing bass guitar for a noted Country artist but spent time jamming with some good ol’ boys from the area.

The brothers soon saw an opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing music together. The Kentucky Headhunters were born. What started out as a fun sideline turned into a successful recording act, seemingly overnight. The 6 years with the 'Headhunters' produced 2 albums, a Grammy, an American Music Award, 4 CMA Awards, 1 ACM and 2 Billboard Awards. Feeling the need to broaden their musical scope, Ricky Lee and Doug pulled away from the group to launch out on their own. The dynamic duo called Brother Phelps shot out of the gate with a Top 10 single, music video award success and nominations at most of the major award shows, including Duo of the Year from the TNN/Music City News Awards and the Country Music Association. After the release of 2 albums with Brother Phelps, Ricky Lee decided to leave the duo and pursue other personal life goals. The following years had Ricky Lee prioritizing his life away from forced touring. First, he wanted quality time seeing his young, adopted, son grow up. Then, with family issues in order, there was time to concentrate on songwriting, recording and producing his latest album in his recording studio. As the son of a minister and, now, as a preacher himself, Phelps has used his music here to share his take on life. Ricky Lee Phelps latest effort 'Signs Of The Times' on Crossfire Records reflects his heart and soul as an artist, and brings forth some of the 'truths' planted in him from his youth through to this moment in his life. "This particular selection of songs are very much a part of me and I hope they become very much a part of you as well. I dug way down deep into my soul and wrote down some of the truths that were taught to me from my youth and tried to relate those truths in song so that they could be understood by you, the listener", Ricky Lee states. "If I have one song that can change one thought pattern in one person, to their betterment, then I have accomplished my goal.”  Amen. MP3- JOHN DEERE LETTER
