- ROXANNE POTVIN
- Roxanne
Potvin first appeared on the Ottawa Blues scene co-fronting
the band Fine Fat Daddy with harmonica player Frank
Scanga in the summer of 2001. With traditional Blues guitar
chops and Jazz infused vocals, Roxanne has since earned
recognition from musicians and Blues fans alike, establishing
herself as one of the most promising talents carrying on the Blues
tradition. With influences ranging from Texas Rock n' Roll to West
Coast Jump, 50's R&B and traditional Chicago Blues, she finds
inspiration in artists such as
Ruth Brown,
Muddy Waters,
B.B. King,
T-Bone Walker, and
Buddy Johnson. Roxanne made her recording debut in January 2002 when she sang on Bogart's Bounce, by
Ottawa's JW Jones. |

Kim Wilson and
Gene Taylor of
Fabulous Thunderbirds appear on the album. 2003 brought the
release of Roxanne Potvin's first album,
Careless Loving. The album features 6 original and 4 covers by Dinah Washington,
Ruth Brown,
Etta
James and
Buddy Johnson.
Over the past three years, Roxanne
has appeared on stage with notable artists such as Sue Foley,
Junior Watson, Mark Hummel, JW-Jones,
Jumpin'
Johnny Sansone, Tony D. and Dawn Tyler
Watson with Les Grandes Dames du Blues. Her debut cd ‘Careless Loving’
displays a precocious professionalism.. You won’t need to dig hard
to uncover Roxanne’s distaff roots on ‘Careless Loving’,
including 'Wild Wild Young Men', a quintessential slice of
frenzied 50’s R&B. Possessing taste, style, and class in
abundance, Roxanne Potvin is no passing comet. I
suspect we’ll be hearing much more from her in the very near future.MP3-
