Louis
'The Father of Rock n'
Roll' Jordan and his Tympani Five's
chart-topping hits and unmatched
showmanship brought in what when now call Rock n' Roll
music. He was a musician, songwriter, band leader and vocalist, which he developed
from his early performances with The Rabbit Foot Minstrels,
and then later playing alto sax with Chick Webb, Charlie Gains
and Clarence Williams. After forming The Tympani Five
in 1939, Louis enjoyed a string of hit recordings that would span two
decades and influence such emerging artists as
Ray
Charles,
B.B. King,
Chuck Berry,
Johnny Otis, and
James Brown.
Among the
band's sidemen were several outstanding musicians including Wild
Bill Davis,
Bill Doggett, Shadow Wilson and Bill Hadnott. Jordan's
legacy was officially recognized when
he was inducted into the Blues Foundation's Hall of Fame (1983), and the
Rock&Roll Hall of Fame
in
1987. |
